RE: ROO 23SS Video feed

Do you have a model number for your Concertone unit? Not all Roos come with the same unit. Mine plays DVD's, CD's, etc. and has video in / out, etc.

RE: Repacking wheel bearing every year

How much is everyone else paying? I checked our dealer and they want 99 an axel = $200. I am certainly mechanically challenged - was going to talk my FIL into coming over and helping me. I'll be damned if I spend $200 that's for sure.
Just had mine done (2 axels) for $79.90 at Camping World.

RE: Brakes and Bearings

I have a Roo 23b. After two years of use, I decided to get the bearings repacked. I wasn't having any problems, but reading several posts here convinced me that it would be a smart thing to do; you know the saying about an ounce of prevention?
I took it to Camping World. They repacked all four wheels and adjusted the brakes for $79.90. For me, it was worth the price. Even if I knew what I was doing, it seems a reasonable price to pay to avoid the hassle of doing it myself.

OK, no laughing, but what does the Forest River "Owners Manual" say about this? :R

RE: Water filter removal

The reason I want to remove it is because it is in such a bad place and taking the canister off makes a mess. I have a inline filter for the city water hose to use instead. Also when winterizing, use less pick stuff. Just wanted to make sure it didn't cause any pressure problems
I have a 23b also and everytime I need to replace the filter I want to find the Engineer who decided to put it where they put it. It's so close to the floor that you have to bend the canister over while pushing up on the housing cap just to get it out of there. What a pain in the neck.

RE: Questions on the Roo 23SS drain, skylight, and axles

OK, then I don't have a problem. Our sticker shows just over 5000lbs GVWR. Soon after we filled it up with our junk I went to a truck stop and weighed in about 4600 lbs.
Thanks guys for clearing this up for me.

RE: Questions on the Roo 23SS drain, skylight, and axles

I think I might need to call FR (the service dept. at my dealer is TERRIBLE) Anybody have the latest number I should call?
My axles are stamped with 998KG, but my sticker on the inside cabinet and the outside both show GVWR of 5082 lbs, leaving me with a CCC of 512 lbs (after accounting for a full 30g of fresh water and full propane tanks.) How can that be if I apparently only have 998kg axles? Either the stickers are wrong, or the plates on the axles are wrong, right? The GVWR can't exceed the rating of the axles, correct?
I have a 23b with a mfg. date of 2/06. The unit came with the riser kit factory installed.

Dilemma

Hello all, looking for some feedback-
We currently have a 2002 F150 supercab 4 x 2 V6 rated to tow 5500 lbs. The vehicle has 65,000 miles.
I have the opportunity to purchase a 2001 F150 supercrew 4 x 4 5.4 liter V8 rated to tow 7200 or 7700 lbs. The vehicle has 102,000 miles.
We currently tow a Rockwood Roo that weighs about 4500 lbs going down the road.
I'm considering selling the V6 and then purchasing the V8. I'm assuming that I'll basically break even money wise if I go for it. My only hesitation is that the V8 has 102,000 miles on it. Otherwise it's in good shape in and out.
What do you guys think?

RE: We bought the Roo - few problems on first trip

For #5, we sometimes have this problem also, but if we "jiggle" the plug a little the fan will come on. I suspect the receptacle is poorly designed. Perhaps you could remove it and take a look for something that need reshaped or bent back into position?
As for the water leaks, don't let them continue. Even a small leak can lead to big time expenses. It just takes some persistance to figure where it's coming from.

RE: Battery question

Hi,
We also have a Roo 23b and installed a second battery using Chuck's assistance. We have not boondocked yet to enjoy the extra juice. We use two 12v batteries.

RE: chock, leveling and sewer hose questions

We use the Rhino hose, the lynx blocks, and the BAL chocks. We found the lynx blocks at Wally World for much cheaper than online. Our Rhino hose fits in our bumper (Roo 23b) with the exception of the adaptor for full hookup sites.

RE: Awning Accessories Suggestions

We purchased the Camco deflappers with the camper a couple of years ago and have used them 2 or 3 times. After we suffered some awning damage due to heavy rain, we now roll up the awning whenever we are expecting high winds or heavy rains. Basically, we wasted our money on them.

RE: Made Our Choice-A new 2008 Roo 233!

Does RVWholesalers take trade-ins? After reading all the positive experiences here, I'm seriously considering them when the time comes (probably won't be for a while though.)
By the way, Andy, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! We love our Roo and can't wait to get out there again this year.

RE: Lake Placid in the summer?

Wow, fdwt994! Are you towing that Roo with an F-16??? :B
If you can make it from Lake Placid to Blue Mountain Lake in a half hour, I certainly don't want to get caught in your tail wash!!! ;)
You are absolutely correct, though about Lake Placid. In a week's vacation, you'll run out of time, long before you run out of things to do!
See, I was having so much fun that I didn't notice that it actually took me 1 1/2 hrs!! :R
We also stayed at the Wilmington KOA in 2005 when we still had a tent. Here's a link to our album which includes several shots of the Wilmington KOA. We really liked the KOA, it was set among pine trees and not too far from Lake Placid.

RE: Lake Placid in the summer?

We LOVE Lake Placid.
I know in the past, the U.S. Olympic Ski Jumping team would practice at the ski jumps. That's right, in the summer! They line the ski jump with plastic and stream water down it, and they do their jumps. Really neat to see. When they're not jumping, you can take the elevator to the top of the ski jump yourself and see what the skiers see.
There are literally hundreds of hiking trails, some pretty rigorous around the high peaks region, but not something you need specialized equipment for. We pack a lunch in our backpacks and start the hike in the morning. It usually takes 2-3 hours to get to the top if you're taking your time.
Also, be sure to visit the Adirondack Museum. It is very well done and well worth a visit. It's about 1/2 hour south of Lake Placid.

Spirit Mountain or Jay Cooke?

Hello,
We are planning a visit to the Duluth, MN area this July. We're in a 26ft hybrid.
We have narrowed our choice of where to stay as either Jay Cooke State Park or Spirit Mountain Campground. I'm familiar with the hook ups at each location. Electricity is required for us, water would be nice but not necessary. What's most important to us is site privacy. We HATE campsites that are close together.
I would like to hear your opinions on which place you would choose and why. Any other information you have that you think would be helpful would also be appreciated.
Thank You!

RE: Transmission oil change

According to my owner's manual (2002 F150), I should have the transmission fluid replaced every 30,000 miles when towing a camper.
Is there any reason I should do it more often than that? We tow the camper about 2,000 miles a year tops, stay under our weight limits, and I did have an auxiliary cooler installed a couple years ago.
What do you guys think?
Thanks
